Achievements
Film Industry
Within the film industry, MJ has worked extensively across production and costume design, graphics, and art departments on projects which have gone on to be featured in Times Square (NYC), Sunset Boulevard (LA), NME, Rolling Stone, Rage, MTV Australia, Variety, FilmInk, Stage 32, Beat Magazine, The Melbourne Star Observer and Q News. Her font illustration work for Ruel has been showcased in his sets for Splendour in the Grass 2023, Riverfest (Thailand) and his ‘4th Wall’ World Tour.
Her costume design work was featured in the AACTA x Sony Pitch Competition 2023 winner, ‘Skin Deep’, as well on ‘The Isaac Haig Variety Hour’ show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2024. In 2026, her costuming work went on to be featured in the BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival.
In 2025, the music video for Forest Claudette’s ‘Everything Was Green’ EP, which she set dressed, received a British Film Designers Guild nomination for Best Production Design — Music Video. The following year, two films she worked on (across graphics and production design departments) were put up for consideration for the 2026 AACTA Awards.
Her costume and production design work has appeared in eleven films for the Melbourne International Film Festival’s VCA Graduate Showcase (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025), as well as screened at Academy Awards® and BAFTA®–qualifying festivals including St Kilda Film Festival and Flickerfest, alongside numerous other notable national and international festivals across Europe, America and South America.
Journalism
MJ's article on Jim Knox and the Ecoplex cinema at Golden Plains and Meredith is the longest piece published in Beat Magazine's 40 year history. It was dubbed as "One of the best features [Beat Magazine has] ever published".
She has received high praise from those she has interviewed, as well as other music industry figureheads.

Visual Arts
Within the visual arts, MJ Kim’s work was featured in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony and in live music and cultural events covered by Beat Magazine and Vice Australia. She has also performed spoken word poetry as part of the Commonwealth Games Festival 2018.
